PFI | Social Media for Scientists

03/2014

Holly Bik, Ph.D. Post-doctoral Researcher, UC Davis Genome Center, gave a presentation and panel discussion on the importance of social media for scientists.

Often overlooked as a 'frivolous' means of communication Holly made the case for how being engaged with various types of social media can significantly increase your impact as a scientist, make connections that would otherwise not make and become, or build a community of like-minded individuals that can grow to become an invaluable resource.

Holly talked about how she went about being engaged, how she built a following and the ways in which being part of such communities has impacted her career path.

Students had the opportunity to talk about some of the challenges in branding yourself on social media and how to start from scratch to have a credible and effective presence in these communities.
