The Stoltz group continue their program of testing the generality of techniques developed in the Center in complex molecular settings. One substrate class of particular interest are the cyanthiwigin natural products.

In this report they describe an improved synthesis to the carbocyclic core that facilitates large-scale production of the core, which will enable expanded exploration of the late-stage C–H functionalization of this class of natural products.
