The CCHF has partnered with the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and the Atlanta Science Tavern to put together a series of talks for the wider public about how plants impact human health.
In October Dr. Chris Welch, from our industrial partners at Merck and Co, gave a talk on the “Handedness and Asymmetry of Molecules, Animals and Orchids”. The audience were given a tour of the concepts behind chirality and the many ways this manifests itself in the Natural Kingdom, from the way DNA folds to the turns of an Orchids petal.
The Atlanta Botanical Gardens have one of the biggest Orchid rooms and Dr. Welch toured the Orchid room before the talk, selecting flowers that effectively demonstrated the chiral turn of the petals.
