The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation supports creative people, effective institutions, and influential networks building a more just, verdant, and peaceful world. This award, commonly known as the 'Genius Grant', is awarded to between 20-30 individuals, working in any field, who have shown "extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self direction".
