APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2020 CCHF IRES COHORT WILL OPEN IN 09/2019

The CCHF IRES program accepts applications from both Undergraduate and Graduate Students. Graduate students must currently be a member of an existing CCHF group.

In order to thrive in an international research setting students must already have a solid footing in practical chemical research. As such we consider prior lab experience a must in order to be selected for this program.

Fellowship Support:

The program aims to support participants so they can fully focus on the research and cultural experience. Recipients of the CCHF IRES Fellowship will receive funds to cover the following aspects of their travel:



  • Return flights to their host location
  • Return flights to the IRES annual meeting
  • All accommodation costs including amenities
  • Local travel allowance for getting around at the host location
  • A pro-rated per diem (based on local costs)
  • Any tuition or visa expenses


In addition to these costs the undergraduate students will receive a weekly stipend in line with other NSF-funded summer research experiences.



Selection Criteria:

The following materials will bre requested from future applicants:

Undergraduate Students

  • Completion of the online application form
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • CV and Transcript



Graduate Students

  • Completion of the online application form
  • Two-page proposed research summary
  • Letter of support from their faculty supervisor

  • Demonstrated research experience and good laboratory practice
  • Demonstrated commitment for further studies in chemistry
  • Student has maximized previous opportunties to be engaged in research
  • Student is adaptable and likely to succeed in a new environment
  • Clear interest in being involved in an international research experience



Graduate Students

  • Graduate Student has proposed work that is collaborative and obviously benefits from being carried out abroad
  • Demonstrated research experience and good laboratory practice
  • Student is adaptable and likely to succeed in a new environment
  • Clear interest in being involved in an international research experience
